The Abner Coburn was 223 feet long. She was built of wood and metal in Bath, Maine in the year 1882. She displaced 1878 tons.
Life[]
Abner was named for a former Maine governor. She was built for general trade. She sailed between the east coast and the Orient. Most often, this was done by route of Indian Ocean and Cape of Good Hope. She also sailed around Cape Horn between New York and San Francisco. On all but three trips, she was commanded by the same skipper, Captain George Nichols. In the 1890's she was sold and worked in the west coast lumber trade until 1912. She was then sold again and worked in salmon canning around Alaska. She was burned for scrap in the early 1920's.
