The Beagle was built as a 90 foot brig with 10 guns in 1820. By her first voyage, she was re rigged as a barque.
She made voyages around Cape Horn. She also sailed around Cape verd and the beagle channel, named after htis ship. Then, she sailed around the world with Charles Darwin aboard. He developed that now commonly accepted "theory" of evolution on board this ship. After this trip, Beagle returned to England. She returned in 1843. In 1845, she was decommisionned. She was a lightohouse ship the rest of her life. In 1870, she was broken up.
