The Intelligent Whale was an experimental, hand-cranked submarine built in 1863 and sold to the Navy in 1869. The first and only trial of the submarine was made by General Sweeney and two other people. The submarine could hold thirteen people, but six were needed to achieve full functionality. It submerged by letting in water. The trial was unsuccessful and the Navy abandoned the project. She can be found in the Navy Museum as of today.
