Just a few months before the splendid Thomas W. Lawson foundered in 1907, another 6 masted schooner was launched. She was built and launched in Rockland, Maine in 1907. The Mertie B. Crowley was just over 400 feet long and had a steam engine rather than a propeller. Before refrigeration by electricity came into play, she delivered ice to Maine's coastline. Sadly, only 3 years later, she was wrecked off the coast of Massachusetts in an ugly snow storm.
